I am a clinical psychologist working in Cape Town. I provide psychotherapeutic services to adolescents and adults to help with the challenges of life and personal growth. I am an empathetic person with a passion for psychological work, human healing and learning about the complexity of human experience.

My Approach

As a psychotherapist I work from a psychodynamic perspective. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a widely employed scientific, evidence-based approach to therapy. I see clients with a minimum frequency of once a week.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an open-ended, approach to therapy with an emphasis on creating a safe space to understand oneself better, feel emotions more fully, build healthy relationships and find meaning in life. If you are interested in learning more about this approach I recommend this article by Dr Jonathan Shedler, internationally acclaimed psychologist.

I have training and experience in a variety of other therapeutic approaches, including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Family Systems Therapy. I sometimes employ aspects of these in my work, especially with young people and families.

I also offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy which is a more intensive version of psychodynamic psychotherapy, where we meet twice a week over a long time period. I do offer a couple of slots of low fee psychotherapy only for clients willing to do twice weekly therapy for 18 months or more.

Areas of Interest

I am interested in working with adolescents and adults struggling with a wide range of problems. This includes relationship and interpersonal problems, stress and burnout, existential problems, as well as conditions like anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD/ trauma and substance use problems. I also work with people seeking personal exploration and growth.

An area of special interest for me is adolescent mental health. I am passionate about helping young people and families negotiate the challenges of growing up and finding a meaningful path in life.

Fees

My fees are consistent with medical aid rates. Please contact me for the most up-to-date rates. Fees are payable after each session.

Some medical aid plans provide cover psychological services. I suggest that you contact your medical aid to find out what your specific plan covers. I am registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders, meaning you can submit a claim to your medical aid for reimbursement if you have appropriate available benefits.

Regardless of which medical aid plan you are on, all medical aids are required by law to provide up to 15 psychotherapy sessions to individuals who meet the diagnostic criteria for certain Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMB) conditions. If you meet the criteria for one of these conditions, I will assist you in applying for this benefit from your medical aid.
